OzPig Review
Campfires are one of the best parts of camping. They provide warmth, atmosphere and something to cook on. My oldies decided to buy themselves an OzPig on a recent trip to Tasmania. This is what my old man had to say about his OzPig…
“We first saw an OzPig during our travels some years ago and thought ‘what a good idea’, like lots of the good ideas we see, we did nothing about it.
Some years later, we were touring Tasmania with our van for about 4 months and a couple of cool evenings got us back to thinking about an OzPig. With Google as our friend, we quickly found the agent in Hobart who offered to deliver on to us at the Hobart Showgrounds where we were camping for a few days. We really appreciated it on a few cold evenings in South West Tassie.
What a great little stove the Oz Pig is. We use it for heating, cooking and just for atmosphere both while camping and at home. Initially we thought it might be a bit large and heavy to carry , but when you consider its use and the fact that it uses so little wood compared to an open fire, it is worth finding a space for it.
We have just the standard OzPig but some of the assessories available seem worth considering, particularly the offset chimney which would allow the use of a larger wok or using the OzPig under an awning. A small flat grill plate is a great addition to put across the top of the OzPig to form a reasonable sized BBQ for two people. Whether its bacon and eggs for brekkie or lamb chops for dinner, the OzPig will give a great result.
What we like best is its ease of set up and the fact that it uses so little wood to produce great heat and atmosphere. Something we think could be improved is the carry bag which will only last a couple of years with reasonable use. One way to extend its life would be to line it, particularly the bottom with pieces of carpet or similar.”
