Lakeview Caravan Park, Richmond QLD
Between Julia Creek and Hughenden on the Flinders Highway, you will find the small town of Richmond. We drove through the area in late November 2014 and it was terribly dry. Hundreds of kilometres of barren paddocks, skinny cattle and lots of road-kill that had obviously come to the roadside to find some green grass to eat before their breakfast was interrupted by a roadtrain’s bull bar.
While searching for a place to camp for the night, we came across Richmond, which claimed to have a small dam with a caravan park joining it. With the drought conditions, we did not expect to find any water in the dam.
We could not have been more wrong.
The dam was full of water, birdlife and lots of wallabies.
We arrived at the Lakeview Caravan Park in Richmond late in the afternoon. We were given a friendly welcome by the park manager and we setup our camper in our allotted site. The caravan park is dog friendly and has the usual rules for dogs.
We base or travels around our dogs. Going for daily walks with the pooches gives us a good excuse to explore the local area from where we are camping. In this case, we discovered that there is a concrete footpath all the way around the dam. It was a nice walk and quite easy too. The dam is only small.
To our surprise a ski boat arrived as we were completing our walk! We couldn’t believe it. For such a small dam, we were amazed that skiing was possible on this dam. There is a boat ramp and a small jetty. We stayed and watched a family go round and round the dam a few times with their ski boat towing a tube. It looked like there having fun.
The caravan park itself is located right next to the dam. The facilities and amenities were clean and conveniently located. There was both powered and non-powered sites available.
While on your travels you find yourself on the Flinders Highway near Richmond, then I would recommend the Lakeview Caravan Park for your overnight stopover.
