King Ash Bay Fishing Classic 2013
Earlier in the year (usually Easter long weekend every year) was the King Ash Bay Fishing Classic. It’s the biggest comp held by the club each year. This year because of all the rain we had over Easter, the competition was postponed until the May long weekend. This didn’t have an effect of entrants. Heaps of people came and entered the comp. And heaps of fish were weighed in. There were all kinds of categories where entrants could win prizes including Champion Estuary Angler and Champion Reef Angler where there were 7 fish in each category to be weighed-in.
Each fish had it’s own category too, for example, there were prizes for the heaviest individual Barramundi and the heaviest Fingermark etc. But if you were good enough to catch all 7 fish in a category, then you would have a very good chance of winning the Champion title.
Over $30,000 in cash and prizes was given out to the winners at the official Sunday night weigh-in at the King Ash Bay club house and bar. There were events held at the bar over the weekend that was great fun, including karaoke and the now famous King Ash Bay Calcutta (Cane Toad Races).
Of course Jazz and I didn’t get to enter the comp. We were too busy in the kitchen preparing for the big Sunday night weigh-in and presentation. We were told it would be one of our busiest nights of the year, and it certainly was.
The official photos from the event were given to me and I put them into a slideshow for people to share around. Enjoy…
