Workman’s Beach Camping Area, Agnes Water, QLD – Near Seventeen Seventy (1770)
When choosing a camp spot, we tend to stay next to a river, creek or waterhole. Because we have dogs, it can sometimes be hard to find a dog friendly camping area located next to a beach.
It was our first night in our brand new camper trailer and we wanted to do something different. So we decided to look for a dog friendly beach camp ground. Workman’s Beach Camping Area ticked pretty much all the boxes we needed, so we gave it a go. Only a short days drive from Hervey Bay where we had spent the previous night. About 4 hours I reckon.
Workman’s Beach Camping Area is located at a place called Agnes Water. Originally we thought it was at Seventeen Seventy (1770) which is a place we had heard other travellers talking about before. But it turns out 1770 is about 10km away from Workman’s Beach Camping Area at Agnes Water.
It’s a very nice spot. We got really lucky though, as we arrived at about 3pm and got the last campsite.
There are numbered sites marked on posts next to each site. There were all kinds of people setup there. Families in tents, back backers in vans, a couple of caravans and more. Quite a few camps had dogs as it is a dog-friendly camp area
There is a small toilet block with flushing stainless steel toilets, but they have no lids or seats. When we arrived they were nice and clean, but they were a bit feral by morning.
There is an outdoor shower. It does have a bit of a fence around it, but it’s not designed to give complete privacy. So you might want to remember to keep some pants on. It is conveniently located near the walking track that comes to and from the beach. Great for getting sand off.
- There are bins provided near the toilet block.
- There are signs to the closest dump point located in town.
- Some picnic tables and barbecues are located on a nice grassed area next to the track down to the beach.
- A ranger walks around the camp collecting camp fees. We paid $9 per night, per person.
- Close by to loads of shops in Agnes Water. Some people walked.
So why is this spot so popular? The beach.
Walking down to the beach for the first time, we were surprised how high up we were. It’s a small track that winds it’s way down from the camp area to Workman’s Beach. In some parts quite tropical looking. In a straight line, the beach is probably only 70ish meters from the beach. But because it’s on a bit of a hill. The track meanders down about 200 meters I reckon.
The beach is only small, but quite picturesque. There are loads of rocks around both in and out of the water.
For us, the Workman’s Beach Camp Area was a lot more crowded than places where we are used to camping. Nice enough spot for a family from nearby(ish) Bundaberg wanting to get away for a long weekend.
